Obituary for James Smith

James Smith
Service for James F. “ Frank” Smith, Jr., 91 of Cleburne will be conducted 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 24, 2018 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel.
The Reverend John Glover and Dr. John Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Greenacres Memorial Park. Visitation will be 3-5:00 P.M., Sunday, at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith passed away September 18, 2018 in Amarillo. He was born November 13, 1926 to James Franklin Smith, Sr. and Minnie Bratcher Smith in Baugh, TN. He married Joyce Marie Robertson on September 19, 1992 in Fort Worth.

He served the United States Navy in the Philippines near the close of World War II. He was shop foreman and machinist at the Cleburne Santa Fe Shops at a young age and continued his career as a Equipment Supervisor for 38 years. He went on to work for Transportation Products company for another 12 years. After retirement continued his love for trains with small train sets and building them from wood.

“We had the honor and privilege to have this handsome man as our father. Dad was so many things, but most of all he was a wonderful dad. He was the most honest, God fearing man you could ever meet. He never had a bad word to say about anyone. Needless to say he loved his family. He was a great provider that made sure we were brought up in a Christian home. We loved him dearly and will miss him beyond words. There is so much that could be said but there is not enough room.”

He and his wife Joyce enjoyed many years traveling abroad. They were dedicated members of the Field Street Baptist Church and enjoyed friends and fellowship there.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Smith of Cleburne; daughters, Jane McKinney and husband Evon, Shirley Arteburn and husband David, Cherri Taylor and husband Jerry, all of Amarillo; son, Ronnie Smith and wife Rita of North Carolina; eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; stepchildren, Gary Waldie of Cleburne and Linda Alley and husband David of North Carolina; four step grandchildren and numerous step great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Lawson Smith, sisters Alta Mae Webb and Lucille McPeters
