During an outdoor excursion at the Old Camo Val Verde in Me Gregor Tx. Joyce took us on a hike out into the back country of said camp where we came upon a medow. With in this area their happen to be a Monarch butterfly within it's crystiasist state but was about to emerge out. As well all stood there in awe of the beauty and birth of the this beautiful Monarch butterfly. I remember Joyce saying to us "don't touch" and again "leave the butterfly alone " Then finally the butterfly emerged. Unfurled it's new wings. Then ever so gently began to move said wings. Then eventually as soon as the Monarch wings where dry it flew away. With all of us watching in awh... Gave new meaning to two of my favorite Camp Fire songs "Don't disturb the the Lady bug sleeping by the spiders web and if you see a butterfly don't try to catch it in your net" or "On Butterfly wings I will carry you".
Joyce you taught many including me to read a compass, how to start and tend a Camp Fire. How to handle a pocket knife. You taught us how to identify poisonous Ivy with a Rhyme "Leaves of three leave them be. Leaves of five let them thrive." I added when I became a River Rat "when in doubt don't touch". You taugh us how to survive in the wilderness. This and much more I will carry with me now and forever. WO HE LO Marie D Henslee
