Alex (Gene) Shaw, 92, of Burleson, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2009 at the Emery J. Lilge Hospice House of Fort Worth.
Alex was born to the late, Alex and Mable Shaw on August 24, 1917 in Lillian. At age five, his family moved to Forest Hill. He graduated from Poly High and attended NTAC in Arlington for three years. Gene went on to Georgia Tech where he played football and baseball. He was an All American in the football season of 1940. He received his degree in aeronautical engineering. He met and married his first wife of 41 years, Helen Braswell in Georgia. Gene worked as a Mechanical Engineer with Sinclair & Arco Oil Refinery for 31 years in Houston. After Helen's death, he later married Katie Shaw in 1983. He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife; and twin brothers, Harrell and Carroll Shaw.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Katie Shaw; three sons, Eugene Shaw, Dr. Robert Shaw, and Steve Shaw; four granddaughters; three grandsons; eight great grandchildren; step sons, Dan and Jim Shaw; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
