Alton Bennett

Service for Alton “Tuffy” Bennett, 80, of Grandview will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Sand Flat Baptist Church. The Reverend Kenneth Coleman will officiate, assisted by the Reverend David Hampton. Burial will be in Odom Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chad Gann, Cody Gann, Philip Whitt, Greg Bennett, Nick Delp, Tim Bates, Benjy Bennett, and Joe Latham. Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Latham, Sam Latham, Jason Hankins, Grant Bennett, and Dane Bennett.

Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Monday, at the funeral home.

Alton “Tuffy” Bennett passed away Friday, October 31, 2014 in Grandview. He was born May 24, 1934 in Grandview to Henry Lee and Beryl Ellen Grant Bennett. He married Ruth La Nell Osburn on January 11, 1959 in Oklahoma.

Mr. Bennett served in the United States Army. He worked at Lockheed, retiring with more than 24 years of service. Tuffy loved football, woodworking, and doing things the hard way. He was a member of Sand Flat Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, La Nell Bennett of Grandview; children, Lisa Ellen Bates and husband Tim of Wiesbaden, Germany, Alta LaNay Bennett of Grandview, Benjy Owen Bennett and wife Christi of Grandview, Janet Sue Finch and husband Larry of Burleson, Jerry Michael Gann and wife Cathy of Cleburne, and Niklas Westerstrahle of Finland; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; niece, Barbara Latham of Forney; cousin, Johnnie Herndon of Burleson; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and five brothers.
