A Celebration of Life honoring Arthur (Art) Hicks, 87, of Covington, will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home Chapel. Senior Pastor Mike Mizell will officiate. Private interment will be in the Rio Vista Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday, July 18, 2022.
Arthur (Art) Ward Hicks passed from his earthly home to his eternal home with God on Thursday, July 14, 2022, in Keene. Art was born April 28, 1935, in Litton Springs, Texas to Horace Newton and Nanny Elizabeth Robertson Hicks. Art was a member of Bethel Temple Assembly of God Church. Art was a Master Mason for over 60 years in which he served in many facets. He was a member of the Caddo Grove Masonic Lodge, #352 of Joshua and the Past Master of the Godley Masonic Lodge, #822. He served as District Deputy Grand Master of District #63 in 1985. He was awarded the Golden Trowel Award in 1995. After high school graduation from Somerset High School, he went on to work with Western Electric, Southwestern Bell and AT&T, retiring in November of 1985 with over 30 years in the telephone industry. Art continued ranching and custom hay baling until 2020. He was a friend to everyone, and his charity had no bounds. He will be missed greatly and remembered fondly for years to come. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Martha Cheryl Hicks; and siblings, Earl Hicks, Hazel Henserling, Carlton Hicks, Harvey Hicks, Maurine Nixon, Vada Hicks and William Hicks.
Survivors include his loyal caregiver and love of his life, JoAnn McLain-Hicks; son, Leslie Keith; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Hicks-Miles; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; multiple stepchildren and grandchildren; siblings, Edman Hicks, Bernice Schupp, Beatrice Hux, Wilbur Hicks, and Robert Hicks; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
