Arthur Mears

Arthur Leon Mears, 91, of Alvarado, Texas, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021 at home with his loving family by his side. Arthur was born in Eulogy, Texas on August 22, 1929 to Jesse and Lula Mears.
He married the love of his life, Norma Lou Furtick, on September 30, 1949. They lived in total commitment to one another for 70 years before her passing in 2019. He was a dedicated family man loved by all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He was a highly skilled farmer and cattleman. His love for the outdoors, which included farming, gardening, planting, tilling the soil, and harvesting the crops connected him deeply to God's creation. He depended so much on his Lord for the successful outcome of the crops and always gave God the glory for the blessings He bestowed upon his family.
In the winter months of the fifties, along with raising farm animals and land prepping, he worked at Lone Star Boat Company in Arlington, Texas. Other occupations included working at the Alvarado Gin and hauling gravel for Johnson County.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing board games, dominoes, forty-two, watching old western movies, and reading.
He was actively involved in his community. He served on the Lillian School Board for over twenty years. For many of those years, he served as president and transportation director.
He faithfully served at his church on the building and grounds committee for many years.
He was a well respected man who made a huge impact on everyone he met. Arthur left behind a beautiful legacy of memories to all his family and friends.
