A private Graveside Service will be held for Bernis Lee Johnson, 90, of Cleburne, Texas. Minister David Johnson will officiate. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, November 18, 2022, from 2:00-6:00 P.M., at the River Ranch Stockyards in Fort Worth, Texas. Pallbearers will be Preston Johnson, Latham Johnson, Truen Johnson, John Gustafson, Brent Johnson, David Cohran, and Eric Gustafson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Shaw, Charlie Throckmorton, Dusty Johnson, and Chance Johnson.
Bernis passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022, in Fort Worth. He was born September 19, 1932, in Johnson County, Texas to Preston Oliver and Ruby Irene (Walton) Johnson. Bernis married Frances Ann Medlen on May 31, 1954, in Oklahoma. He was a Christian and loved the Lord. Bernis was a 7-time NFR Cowboy in bareback, bull riding, and steer wrestling. Later he became a stock contractor in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. Bernis was one of the top Rodeo Producers in the U.S.
Bernis was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Ann Johnson who passed away in 2009; brothers, Donnie Johnson and Kenneth Johnson, and 2 infant brothers; sister, Colleen Curlee; and son-in-law, Greg Rumohr.
He is survived by his children, Bernie Jay Johnson and wife, Janna of Hico, Texas, David Johnson and wife, Karen of Aledo, Texas, Lesa Gustafson and husband, John of Glen Rose, Texas, and Donna Rumohr of Rio Vista, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
