Berta Owens Rhodes, 82, of Alvarado, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021 in Fort Worth. She was born to John William and Nina Parlee Vickers Owens on September 17, 1938 in Johnson County, Texas. Berta worked as a cosmetologist for numerous years. She was of the Baptist faith. She married, Billy Gene Rhodes on September 25, 1957 in Weatherford, Texas. Berta was known as a “spitfire”, with a strong will and ability to keep everyone and everything in line. She spent countless hours crocheting, knitting, painting, and tending to her herb garden, all of which brought her great joy. Berta was a collector of yard art. She was known for her cookies and enchiladas, always happy to cook and bake for those around her. She will be missed greatly. Berta was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Gene Rhodes; children, Teresa Monk and husband, Mike, Sherry Reeves, Charolett Hobson and husband, Robert “Twoey”, and Richard “Bubba” Rhodes and wife, DeDe; grandchildren, Sondra Stewart and husband, Len, Kenneth “Scooter” Lee and wife, Kim, Jennifer Vanderlaan and husband, Jason, Jessica Brown, Joshua Rhodes and wife, Robyn, Dustin Rhodes and wife, Lauren, and Robert Glover; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 in the Glenwood Cemetery, Alvarado with Rev. John Whiteside officiating. Michael Monk, Twoey Hobson, Jason Vanderlaan, Scooter Lee, Joshua Rhodes, Dustin Rhodes, and Leonard Stewart will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be held at Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 11, 2021.
