Services for Betty Jane (Smith) Barron, 80, of Alvarado, will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Friday, November 13, 2020 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Reverend Lyn Rice will officiate, assisted by Mr. David Walker. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery in Alvarado. Pallbearers will be Brent Bowman, Ben Welch, Jake Hall, Cody Cofer, Brenton Douglass and Hunter Bowman. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 P.M., Thursday, November 12, 2020 at the funeral home.
Betty Barron passed away Thursday, November 5, 2020 in Fort Worth. She was born February 29, 1940 in the Webb Community, Texas to William Henry and Velma Jane (Foster) Smith. She married Robert “Bob” Joseph Barron on September 22, 1956 in Hico, Texas at The Smith Ranch. Betty and Bob were retired and former owners of Bob’s Rural Garbage Company.
Betty was a member of Buel Baptist Church for 45 years and was their pianist. She was the pianist for Brookesmith Baptist Church for 12 years. She served as the Organizational Leader of the Bethany 4H Club. She was a piano teacher, cattle rancher, business owner, story teller and the ultimate granny.
Survivors include her husband, R.J. “Bob” Barron; children, Beth Bowman and husband, Donald, Tammy Byrd and husband, Jason; son-in-law, Tim Welch; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Velma Duval; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Vicky Welch; and siblings, Laura Kathleen Parker, William Timothy Smith, and Fina Elizabeth Propst.
