Graveside service for Bettye Hutchins, 86, of Grandview, will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 10, 2016 in the Grandview Cemetery. The Reverend Charles Payne and Mr. Buddy Fry will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jerry Moore, Sam Duke, Terry Gill, Don Gill, Lee Vinson, and Bill Allevia. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home.
Bettye Hutchins passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2016 in Ft. Worth. She was born August 23, 1929 in Big Spring to Philip D. and Lola Bertha Vinson Gill and was raised in Keene by John L. Smith, her stepfather. She married Fred Hinton Hutchins on May 29, 1949 on the Ralph Gill Ranch and he preceded her in death in 1992.
Mrs. Hutchins was a retired registered nurse. She was very active in the Johnson County Republican Women for many years and was also a member of the Confederate Air Force with a rank of Colonel. Bettye loved her work with the CAF and attended and helped organize many events for them across Texas. She was also a Huguley Hospital volunteer for many years, known as “The Popcorn Lady”, a member of the Harvard University Nurses Medical Study, Walls Memorial Hospital White Hats Club for Retired Nurses and the Calvary Baptist Church in Grandview.
Survivors include her son, Richard M. Hutchins and wife Diane of Bastrop; daughter, Dyan Hutchins of Kingwood; grandson, Kevin Dynes of San Antonio; and many other relatives and friends. Bettye was also preceded in death by her parents; stepfather; and three brothers, William Randolph “Ralph” Gill, Raymond Henry “Ray” Gill and Cecil Randolph “Randy” Gill.
