Bill F. Bales, of Ft. Worth, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2006 in Ft. Worth, TX. He was born August 30, 1929 in Ft. Worth, to John and Alene Bales. He graduated from Paschal High School in Ft. Worth. Bill earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Geology from Texas Tech University in 1953. While at Texas Tech, he served as President of Texas Tech Saddle Tramps Service Organization and President of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was elected to Who's Who in American Colleges and Who's Who among Tech Students. He was elected Mr. Texas Tech in 1953.
Bill servied his country in the U.S. Army, assigned to the Far East during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1956 at which time he began a career with Humble Oil and Refining company (Exxon) in Tyler and Midland. He became an Independent Oil Operator in 1974. He was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen serving two terms on the AAPL Board of Directors. He was a member of the East Texas Association of PEtroleum Landmen serving as President of that organization and received the "Outstanding Landman" Award from that association in 1972. He was a member of the Order of the Rose in Tyler, TX. He served on the Camp Fire USA board and was a Third Degree Mason and a member of the Shriners. Even after retiring, he remained in the oil business until his death.
He is survived by daughter Pam Rasmussen and husband Hal and their children Christopher, Matthew and Blake of Midland, TX.; daughter, Jennifer Reid of Lubbock, TX. and a brother, Bob Bales of Midland, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service was held on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006 at the Burleson Memorial Park in Burleson, TX.
