Service for Bill Burton Barnard, 88, of Plano will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 10, 2021 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Cleburne. Visitation 6-8:00 P.M., Friday, April 9, 2021 at the funeral home.
Bill was born August 17th, 1932 the son of Burl B Barnard and Agnes Deitrich Barnard who were business owners, civic and charity leaders, and past commanders of the American Legion. He was also the great-grandson of Charles and Juana Barnard founders of Barnard Mill later renamed Glen Rose Texas. A member of the Cleburne High School 49ers, he graduated with the 1949 class. He also graduated from North Texas State College in Denton, Texas receiving a Batchelor of Science Degree in Education, and Business Administration. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 and was assigned to Counter Intelligence School at Lowery Airforce Base in Denver, Colorado. After graduation he served with the Counter Intelligence section of the 12th Air Rescue Group at Sembach AFB, Germany. Honorably discharged in 1956, he was employed by General Motors until 1984 progressing from an entry level employee to branch manager for the northeast section of Texas. During that time, he lived in Garland, Texas and was active with the Garland JCs as Chairman of the July 4th fundraising event and the Texas JC regional Golf Tournament. He also coached 6th grade football and managed a major league Little League team. After leaving General Moters in 1984 he owned an automobile leasing company, an insurance premium finance company, and various investment and real estate interests until he retired in 1990. He is survived by his wife Kelly Barnard, and his three daughters Mara Griffith of Temple, Texas, Carin Leon and her husband Fritz of Parker, Colorado, and Jana King and her husband John of Redwater, Texas. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
