Graveside service for Bill McKinney, 89, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 3:30 P.M., Saturday, March 19, 2022, in Greenacres Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8:00 P.M., Friday, March 18, 2022, at the funeral home.
Bill passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022, in Fort Worth. He was born January 2, 1933, in Hillsboro to Johnson and Hattie (Wood) McKinney. Bill served in Korea for the United States Airforce from 1951-1953. He was a member of Nolan River Baptist Church. Bill retired from Johns Manville after 30 plus years of service. It has been said countless times that he was a “good man.” B.T. was devoted to his faith and family. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He collected boats and barbed wire. Bill was an avid reader of westerns and mysteries. His love of books led him to owning “The Book Store” in Cleburne for several years. Being a great cook, he even taught his wife, Liz, and his children to cook as well. He could be found at the auction house in his later years. Bill was an inspiration to many and will be missed greatly for his giving spirit.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Holly Curlee and husband, Kent, and Michelle McKinney; stepsons, Tod Shelton and wife Chanda, and Tad Shelton; daughter-in-law, April McKinney; grandchildren, Elizabeth Askins and husband, Zach, Slade Moore, Macy McKinney, Peydon Shelton, Paxton Shelton, and Parker Shelton; great-grandchild, Zade Askins; sister, Thelma Jo Johnson; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wives, Elizabeth Ann (Smith) McKinney in 1985, and Sandra Fay (Fisher) Shelton McKinney in 2015; sons, Billy Charles McKinney, and William Michael McKinney; and siblings, Sybil Ransom and John McKinney
