Private memorial services for Billy Junior Birdwell, 80, of Morgan, will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, November 9, 2012 at the funeral home.
Mr. Birdwell passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 in Waco. He was born to William Eddie and Velma Louise Jones Birdwell on May 20, 1932 in Rusk County, Texas. He married Cecil Norene Wiggins on May 30, 1952 in Bell County. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Billy worked over 39 years as a Carman with Santa Fe Railroad. He was a volunteer fireman, serving as a former chief of the Steele Creek Acres Volunteer Fire Dept for over 22 years. Billy boxed in the Army and Golden Gloves, earning many trophies. He was an avid hunter and founding member of the Johnson County Coon Hunters Association. Being an outdoorsman, he also enjoyed fishing and camping, especially on the Brazos River. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Bosque County and of Kopperl United Methodist Church. Billy's devotion to his family and his love of life and laughter will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tere Lynn Miller; brother, Trittes Birdwell; sisters, Ada Lockett and Estelle Birdwell.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Cecil Norene Birdwell; daughters, Cindi Brown, Linda Hight and her husband, Mike, and Debra Lewis; grandchildren, Charley Hight, B.J. Hight, Christina Miller, Erin Chaney, and Sara Hollingsworth and her husband, Dave; 9 great grandchildren, Chassidi, Leslie, Matthew, Cain, Madison, Jayci, Bailey, Brenna, and Brazos; siblings, Margie Curtis, Louise Moser, Patsy Mathis, and Frances Maughn; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
