Billy J. Malcom

Service for Billy Joe Malcom, 89, of Keene will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018 at Field Street Baptist Church. Dr. John Hall will officiate, assisted by Reverend John Glover. Burial will be in Cleburne Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tyler Malcom, Zachary Malcom, Brian Gannon, Matt Willert, Aaron Rathbone, and Mike Mahanay. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Billy Joe Malcom went to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ, early Sunday morning, February 18, 2018. He had been a resident of Town Hall Estates in Keene, Texas.

Billy was born March 10, 1928 in Glenwood, Arkansas and was one of three children born to Barney and Opal Malcom. His older brother Barney E. Jr., died of meningitis at the age of six, and his younger sister Bettye was nine years younger. He married Dorthy Barron Malcom, his sweetheart of 64 years, on December 4, 1949. After years of being a devoted and loving husband, she preceded him in death in August 2014.

After graduating from Glenwood High School in 1946, Billy joined the U S Army and was eventually stationed in South Korea. He was in an anti- aircraft unit whose purpose it was to protect the local air base in South Korea and to repair surplus equipment from WWII. This was a stage of preparation for the Korean Conflict. After 13 months of service he was honorably discharged. When he returned he entered the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in 1948. During this time he met Dorthy. They dated, fell in love and were married 9 months later. Bill also graduated from Mortuary School about this same time and they moved to Arkansas where he worked for 2 different funeral homes and then in 1954 moved to Texas. After working at various other funeral homes in 1962 they moved to Cleburne, where Billy worked for Crosier-Pearson (Mayfield) Funeral Home until he retired as a funeral director after 50 years being in the business. His career enabled him to help countless families to honor their loved ones in their time of grief.

Billy became a Mason in 1958 in Strawn, Texas. He became active in Cleburne Masonic Lodge No.315 and served as Worshipful Master from 1984-85. His wife was Worthy Matron in the Cleburne Ruth Chapter No.20 of Eastern Star simultaneous and he was her Worthy Patron. He was a member of Field Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Bible Study Teacher, and participated in several Mission Trips which assisted other churches with building projects. He and Dorthy were members of the Curly-Q's Square Dancing Club and a 42 domino group. He and his wife also loved to travel across the US by car, took cruises to Alaska and Western Europe, and also toured in Israel.

Billy also enjoyed many years of vegetable gardening, fishing, and reading. Reading his Bible was the first thing he did each morning.

Billy is survived by his daughters, Dianna Tutle and her husband, Paul; Inajo Gray, and her husband, Ronald; son, Mark Malcom and his wife, Judi; five grandchildren and their spouses; and eleven great-grandchildren. Also by his sister, Bettye Henderson; her daughter, Dixie Montgomery and her family.
