Services for Billy H. Starnes, 85, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church. Rev. Wayne Ashlock and Rev. Steve Durban will officiate. Burial will be in Cleburne Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Thursday
Billy H. Starnes passed from this life and was welcomed into his heavenly home on Sunday, February 22, 2009.
Bill Starnes served his country in the Navy for four and a half years during WWII.
He was born on August 20, 1923 in Cleburne, TX to Mary Sudie and E.T. Starnes. He was a graduate of TCU and Brite Divinity School.
Bill was employed by General Dynamics for 25 years and then Brown & Root before becoming an ordained minister in the Disciples of Christ Church. He served churches in Pilot Point and Brady, TX
Following his retirement, he was a volunteer at Walls Regional Hospital for over 10 years. He thoroughly enjoyed meeting people and being of service in anyway possible. He enjoyed square dancing, playing Mexican Train Dominoes and especially playing golf.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, E.T. (Jack) Starnes, Jr., J.V. Starnes and Charles Starnes; one sister, Mary Sue Reagor and one son, Billy Starnes, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pat Starnes; one daughter, Susan Haynes and husband, Bob of Arlington and son, Rick Starnes of Cleburne. Also, granddaughters, Lisa Aten and husband, Scott of Cleburne; Shani Master of Grapevine; grandsons, Riche Stanley of Salt Lake City, Utah, Chris Starnes and wife, Cresta of Rockport, TX, Scott Starnes and wife, Cheyenne of Fort Carson, Colorado, Scott is currently serving in Iraq, Jeff Starnes of Denver, Colorado and Rhett Haynes and wife, Valerie of Plano.
He had five great-grandchildren.
Bill was a member of First Christian Church and Field Street Baptist Church.
He will be remembered as a faithful friend, loving and devoted husband and father and adored granddad.
The family wants to express their appreciation for the loving care provided by the staff of Heritage Trails Nursing Care and Rehab and American Hospice nurses and Chaplin. May God bless you all.
Contributions in Bill's memory may be made to the First Christian Church building fund.
