Bob A. McAlister passed away on November 12, 2022, in Burleson, Texas. He was born on February 7, 1927, in Stamford, Texas, and grew up in Stamford, Childress, and Palacios Texas. Bob graduated from Palacios High School in 1943, from Texas A&M University in 1948 as class of '47 with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a radio technician. Bob met his wife, Celia, during an A&M/LSU football game weekend while she was attending LSU in 1946, and they married on August 7, 1948. They were married for over 72 years until Celia passed away in 2020.
Bob worked for Buffalo Forge, McAlister Van Lines, RangeAire Corporation, and Lennox Industries until he retired as branch manager in Austin, Texas. A few years later, he and Celia moved back to Cleburne and lived there for the last 20 years. Bob was active in the Episcopal church throughout his life, and was very involved with the El Buen Samaritano outreach mission and food pantry in Austin. He was an avid historian of the Texas Revolution and the Civil War, and also devoted his time to Save Old Cleburne. Bob was friendly, outgoing, generous, and made numerous friends over the years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ores and Mattie, his wife Celia, and his brother Theodore. He is survived by his brother Joe and wife Keeta; sons Robert, James, and Jere; grandsons Trent, Joel, Neal, James Robert, and Steven; great granddaughters Lucy and Mila, and great-grandson Max; daughters-in-law Diane, Cindy, and Carol; and granddaughter-in-law Laura.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 18, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home in Cleburne, Texas. Graveside service and burial will be on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Cleburne Memorial Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony's Anglican Church in Alvarado, Texas, with the Reverend Cooper Wise Morelock officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ubuntu Life Foundation (https://www.ubuntulife.foundation).
