Service for Bobby Hargis, 81, of Cleburne will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. The Reverend O.L. Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in Rio Vista Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Monday, at the funeral home.
Bobby Hargis passed away Friday, April 25, 2014 in Cleburne. He was born September 12, 1932 in Rio Vista to Spencer Mitchell and Edna Higginbotham Hargis. He married Lena Ruth Yockel on July 15, 1951 in Cleburne.
Mr. Hargis served his country in the United States Army. He worked as a policeman with the Dallas Police Department, retiring after 44 years of service. He was assigned to the JFK motorcade on the Presidents final trip to Dallas. Mr. Hargis enjoyed fishing. He was an avid sports fan, especially football and the Dallas Cowboys. He was a 32nd degree Mason, member of the East Dallas Lodge, and served as a Deacon at Buel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Lena Ruth Yockel Hargis of Cleburne; children, Richard Hargis of Cleburne, Victoria Brown and husband Iain of McKinney, Catherine Hargis of Cleburne, and Spencer M. Hargis of Woburn, MA; grandchildren, Christopher Wells, Mary Wells, Jason Wells, Elliot Brown and Simon Brown; great grandchildren, Justin, Timothias, Tobey, Keather, and Roy Lee; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Zach and Nettie Higginbotham, who raised him and Samuel and Nina Hargis; parents; brother, Jack Hargis; and sister, Mitzi Green.
