Graveside service for Bobby Ray Stephens, 82, of Cleburne will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011 in the Rosehill Cemetery. Open visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family asks that donations be made to Meals on Wheels of Johnson County in lieu of flowers.
Mr. Stephens passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011 in Keller. He was born July 27, 1929 in Cleburne to Bazle Ernest and Eddie Donia Snell Stephens.
He was a retired switchman having 41 years of service with Santa Fe Railroad.
Papa, as his grandchildren called him, was a giving man. He always put the needs of others before his own, especially children. He was outgoing, never having met a stranger. Bobby enjoyed gardening and woodworking. During his early retirement he traveled all over the states with his first wife Nancy Lee Smith Stephens. They were married 43 years at the time of her death. He was a member of Field Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Stephens; children, Jim Stephens, Debbie Hamilton and husband Bill and Pam Watson and husband Billy; eight grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and two on the way; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded by his parents, wife, Nancy Lee Smith Stephens on Dec, 22, 1990; brothers, Aaron Drue Stephens, Alton Ernest Stephens, Merle Morton Stephens and Emory Earl Stephens.
