Service for Bruce Henderson Jr., 79, of Cleburne, formerly of Milburn, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 20, 2014 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Burial will be in Greenacres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Wednesday at the funeral home.
Dana Bruce Henderson, Jr, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. He was born in Milburn on December 17, 1934 to Dana Bruce and Valera N. Adams Henderson, the first of two children. He grew up in Milburn, graduating from Rochelle High School in 1953. Later, pursuing his passion for learning; receiving multiple degrees, including a bachelors degree from Howard Payne University, and a masters degree from Texas A&M University Commerce , a LLB degree from Blackstone School of Law and certification in composite science from North Texas University; and certification in mathematics from University of Texas at Dallas.
He began his career at Southwestern States Telephone Company, going on to work for Oil Well supply. Bruces own struggles in school inspired him to begin a career in education. He taught for many years at J.J. Pearce High School, Rio Vista High School, Castleberry High School, Richland College and later teaching mathematics at Hill College. He had a passion for helping students overcome their own learning difficulties.
A faithful Christian, Bruce was a longtime member of Rogers Baptist Church while living in Garland and later Calvary Baptist Church in Cleburne. He was also a member of AARP and volunteered to help Senior citizens and others with their income taxes.
He was married to Winona Estess on December 14, 1956 in Brownwood. Together they raised Dana III and Thomas.
Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Dana B. Henderson and his mother, Valera Henderson.
He is survived by his wife, Winona Henderson; children, Dana B. Henderson III, Thomas Henderson and wife, Joanna; sister, Marlene Wood; sister-in-law, Evonna Gilbreath; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Bruces desire for his life was to leave a legacy that glorified Christ. He succeeded by living the life of a faithful husband, loving father and respected teacher. His memory will be cherished by his family, friends and hundreds of students.
