Burl Smith

Burl Smith, 82, passed away after an extensive battle with multiple health complications in Fort Worth on June 19, 2015 with his daughters by his side. Burl was formerly of Cleburne and currently resided in Burleson with his daughter and son-in-law.

Graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Glenwood Cemetery in Alvarado. Visitation will be at Crosier-Pearson Funeral Home, 512 N. Ridgeway Drive, in Cleburne from 6-8:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 23, 2015.

Burl was born on October 29, 1932. He married Iva Lou Swinney, love of his life, in 1955. Burl was a phenomenal musician, best known for exceptional mandolin performances. He was a Korean War Veteran, and retired United States Marine. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a Master Mason who belonged to The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Texas for over 50 years at the Southside Masonic Lodge No 1114.

Most importantly, Burl was a kind and devoted family man who considered all he met his friend. He never met a stranger. He loved to laugh and to fill the lives of others with laughter. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his children, Shari Cline and husband Tom D’Andriole and Kelly Smith; grandchildren, Gina and husband John McWhirter and Jason Oliver; great grandchildren, Brooke, Cutter, Bailey, Caden, and John David McWhirter, sister-in-law, Tommie Sue Sanderson; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Iva Lou Smith and his best friend and brother-in-law, Wayne Sanderson.
