Calvin Gist

Services for Calvin H. Gist, 82, of Rio Vista will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Mr. Karl Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Rio Vista Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M., Wednesday.
Mr. Gist passed away Monday, Aug. 30, 2010 in Rio Vista. He was born June 16, 1928 in Rio Vista to Colman and Lillie Grubbs Gist. He married Lela Pearl Underdown on Nov. 7, 1953 in Cleburne. Mr. Gist was a member of the Church of Christ and was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a tank commander. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in Ft. Worth for 23 years as a switchman and also worked for nine years for Boswell Dairies.
Mr. Gist is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pearl Gist of Rio Vista; two sons, Kevin Gist and wife Karen and Wade Gist and wife Renee all of Rio Vista; daughter, Selene Nix and husband Bruce of Cleburne; brother, Cary Gist and wife Colleen of Wisconson; sister, Vera Bratcher of Keene; five grandchildren, Sarah, Seth and Ty Gist, Iain Nix and Chris Jenkins and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Don Kathryn Gist on June 27, 2010 and brother, Robert Gist.
