Family and friends of Carl McKinney Glenn will gather on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, in Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel to celebrate his life.
Visitation with the family will begin at 11 a.m., with a memorial service at 1 p.m., followed by burial with a military honor guard at Greenacres Memorial Park.
Jesus called him home on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011. Carl was born in Lake Arthur, N.M. on March 30, 1920. He grew up in Godley, Texas, the son of Finis and Willie Mae Glenn. After serving with the U.S. Army in the Pacific during WWII, Carl married and moved to Cleburne, Texas. His brother and sister, Raymon Glenn and Fina Mae Graves still reside in Cleburne.
Carl lived all his adult life in Cleburne in the house that he built in 1954 at 803 Marengo. He made his living with his hands, working for the Santa Fe Railroad as a carpenter for more than 35 years, while working as a barber for 20 years. Carl worshiped with Westside, now Westhill Church of Christ family, serving for many years as a deacon and Bible teacher.
Carl was blessed to share his life with three good women. Carl was married for 23 years to Sammie Margaret Glenn, his first love and the mother of his children, who died in 1968. He was married for 29 years to Henrietta Glenn, his partner in parenting, grand parenting, and also his RV camping buddy in their retirement years, until her death in 2001. He is survived by Jerry Key Glenn, his wife of six years, loving partner in life and fierce competitor in Bridge, Spades and Wahoo; they also shared in the joy of great-grandchildren.
His growing and grateful family include: three children: Carl and Violetta Glenn of Beach City, Texas, Joe and Margaret Glenn Mechinus of San Antonio, Texas, and Bob and Jan Glenn Valecka of Lewisville, Texas; grandchildren: Robert and Emma Valecka of Lewisville, Texas, Randy and Kelly Ford of Alvarado, Texas, Gino Mechinus of Murpheesboro, Tenn., Jesse and Crystal Mechinus of Bloomington, Ind., Kristy and Ben Nichols of Kerrville, Texas, Shannon Boe of San Antonio, Texas, Stephen and Tatiana Mechinus, Bo and Marie Mechinus, and Sammie Mechinus, all of Austin, Texas; and 21 great-grandchildren, the youngest of which was welcomed into this world on the same day that Carl was welcomed into heaven. He will be remembered always for the love and laughter he brought into our lives.
