Carol Ann Elder, age 84, passed from this life on July 8, 2022 in Cleburne, Texas
Carol was born in Porterville, California to Clayburn Harris and Lennie “Jewel” Bockman Harris. Carol grew up in small towns in southwestern Oklahoma, graduating from Altus High School in 1955. At the young age of 18, she met James Robert Elder. It was love at first sight and after a whirlwind courtship they married in February of 1956. They adored each other. With God’s grace, lots of love and hard work, they enjoyed 64 years as sweethearts.
Jim and Carol spent the beginning of their marriage in Altus, Oklahoma and later moved to Texas. They lived in many towns in north Texas -- Haltom City, North Richland Hills, Burleson, Grandview and Cleburne. Carol was a homemaker until their daughter Valerie was in junior high when Carol then entered the workforce. She worked several years in the Fort Worth Municipal Court before going to work in the City of Fort Worth Mayor and City Council offices. She was the consummate professional and caring coworker. She personified grace-under-pressure.
After her retirement from the City, she enjoyed “doing whatever I want.” She and Jim loved being together and were seldom apart.
She was a member of the Granbury Street Church of Christ. Carol loved her Lord and we rejoice that she is with Him now.
She was preceded in death by her husband James “Jim” Elder, her parents and brothers Clay Harris and Max Harris.
Survivors include her daughter Valerie Neill and husband Dennis of Cleburne; granddaughter Rachel Harvill and husband Louis of Plano; grandson Weston Sherrill and wife Rachel of Maypearl; great-grandsons Wyatt and Quin and great-granddaughter Hudson Grace; brother John Harris and wife Mignon of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; sister in law Winona Harris of Glenpool, Oklahoma; sister Cheryl Duff of Hobart, Oklahoma; sister Patty Clements of Yukon, Oklahoma; and many dear cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to Santa Fe Trails Assisted Living and Freedom Hospice for their love and care.
A memorial service is scheduled at Granbury Street Church of Christ in Cleburne at 11:00 a.m. on July 16, 2022.
