Services for Catholene Massey, 94, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2007 in the Greenacres Mausoleum Chapel. Reverend Robert Graham will officiate.
Catholene Hicks Massey was born December 16, 1912 in Burleson, Texas to Robert E. and Pluma E. Wilson Hicks. She became a member of the Field Street Baptist Church at the early age of 12, where she remained a loyal member throughout her life. She graduated from Cleburne High, she took a course in library science at the College of Industrial Arts at Denton and worked as assistant librarian at the Carnegie Library in Cleburne. Catholene worked at the Johnson County Clerks office from which she retired. With an artistic bent, over the years, she created a large collection of delicately dressed handcrafted dolls which have been donated to the Layland Museum. She married Roe C. Massey, February 22, 1947 and they lived and worked in Cleburne thereafter. In recent years, she has been living at the Wren House.
Catholene Hicks Massey is survived by her step-daughters, Carol Escue of Eastland and Margie Cokeley of Pueblo, Colorado; grandchildren, Roland Escue of San Antonio and Janet Eaton of Eastland; nieces, Janice Weatherton and family of Cypress, TX, Nancy Trippet and family of Austin, TX, her sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hicks of Cedar Park, TX and June Hicks of Houston, TX., cousins, Woodrow "Jack" Wilson and family of McLean, VA, and Frances Wood of Alvarado, TX She was preceded in death by her husband, Roe C. Massey on June 14, 1991 and two brothers, Jack and Edwin Hicks.
