Mr. Phinney stepped into glory on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 to meet his Savior Jesus Christ, face to face. He was born to Grover Cleveland and Ethel Mae Moore Phinney on May 29, 1926 in Marble Falls, Texas. Clarence married Patsy Ann Riggs, the love of his life, on December 7, 1946 in Burnett, Texas. They were married almost 65 years at Pat’s passing. He served in the United States Army during World War II. During Vietnam he again served his country, but as a civilian contractor. He worked until the age of 84 in the air conditioning industry. His talents and skills were often sought after for re-designing units for various companies throughout the years. Clarence was a faithful member and Chaplain of the Gideons. He was a Deacon at Field Street Baptist Church for many years. He also gave countless hours to Spirit of Sharing at Field Street, teaching his grandsons the value of helping others. He enjoyed playing dominoes with fellow church members of Field Street Baptist Church. Clarence spent countless hours collecting, cutting and polishing rocks. He was a giving man, always concerned with helping others. His family and friends will remember his love of laughter and how he was able to still have a positive attitude and joking spirit even in the last moments of his life. His strong work ethic and giving nature will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; lovely wife, Pat; three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Rebecca S. Martin and Eldon, Wayne O. Phinney and Gwen, Douglas E. Phinney, and Linda A. Conover and Mike; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Beulah Gay; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
While we mourn his absence from our lives, we celebrate that Clarence’s soul now resides in his eternal home in heaven with Jesus.
