Service for Clifford E. Recer, 89, of Cleburne will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, March 18, 2017 in St. Mark United Methodist Church. The Reverend Don Scott and Reverend Andy Tyler will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 P.M., Friday, at the funeral home.
In the early spring morning of Wednesday, March 15, 2017, Clifford E. Recer followed the North Star to his heavenly home. He was born September 10, 1927 in Collin County to Jess Roy and Letha Crawley Recer. He married Betty Sue Stuart on August 20, 1949 in Denton.
Clifford graduated from Princeton High School and served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. After the war, he attended the University of North Texas in Denton. After North Texas, Clifford was employed by the Lone Star Gas Company in the surveying department. After leaving there, he went to work as a surveyor for Texas Electric Service Company. Later an opportunity for self -employment opened up in Cleburne where he served as County Surveyor and established Recer Surveying Company on June 1, 1958. Then on December 1, 1963 Clifford formed a partnership with Robert Childress, an Engineer, which became Childress and Recer Engineering and Surveying Company. Recer and Fox Professional Surveyors was later formed in 1990.
He was elected President of Texas Surveyors Association (now Texas Society of Professional Surveyors) in 1983. He was honored to be elected Surveyor of the Year in 1982, especially since that award recipient was selected by all the surveyors in the state of Texas. In 2001 Clifford received the highest honor of the association-The Hugh L. George Award. Clifford served as an advisor and director of the Texas State Technical College in Waco in the surveying section. He also served one year at Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi as an advisor and director of the Blucher Foundation in Surveying. He was a longtime active member of St. Mark United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 67 years, Betty Recer of Cleburne; three daughters, Lana Susan Grantham of Cleburne, Sara Lynn Recer of San Diego, CA and Carol Recer Beene and husband Jeff of Shreveport, LA; four grandchildren, John Brian Bennett, Jeffrey Beene and wife Erin, Allison Beene and Austin Beene; five great grandchildren, Jon Westley Bennett, Madison Bennett, Morgan Bennett, Maximus Beene and Sienna Beene; one sister, Wenona Carman and husband Charles of McKinney; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
