Clyde L. 'Jerry' Burt

Visitation for Clyde L. ‘Jerry’ Burt, 89, of Cleburne, will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 30th, 2017 in the Crosier-Pearson Chapel. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Jerry passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017 in Cleburne. He was born September 30, 1928 in Cleburne to A.F. ‘Sparky’ Burt and Lou Ella (Eastus) Burt. He married Dorothy Jean Ratliff on October 3, 1947 in Cleburne. He never lived a day of his life away from Cleburne and was proud to boast of his town.
He was employed by the Gulf Colorado & Santa Fe Railway as a machinist from February 14, 1945 to December 21st, 1987 in the Cleburne Shops. Jerry’s best memory of working for the Santa Fe was working with his dad and brother, Melvin H. ‘Sonny’ Burt. His worst memory was the day of the buyout.
Jerry was a member of Henderson Street Baptist Church. He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in Fort Worth having achieved the 32.
From a young age he was an avid fisherman and happiest with a rod & reel in his hand. Jerry was tough competition to both young and old on the golf course far into his 70s. He had a fascination with pigeons, raising and competing in races for several decades. Jerry felt that he lived during the best of times, found the good fishing holes before they were ‘fished out’ and had no regrets. He was thankful to his Savior for a wonderful life.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Burt; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Robby Wallace; brother, Melvin H. ‘Sonny’ Burt and sister-in-law, Madine Burt; numerous nieces and nephews, relatives, dear friends; and grand dog, Blossom.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
