Services for Clyde C. Melton, 96, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Sunday, June 26, 2011 in the Crosier Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Burial will follow in the Keene Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Saturday in the funeral home.
Mr. Melton passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at his home, surrounded by loved ones. Clyde was born to Oscar S. and Ellie Carswell Melton on May 26, 1915 in Cheney, Texas. He served in the United States Army during World War II, as a medic. Clyde married Lois Ellen Waterhouse on December 2, 1945 in Bucyrus, Ohio. He worked as a painting contractor, retiring at the age of 90. "Grandpa", "Poppy" or "Papaw" as his grandchildren and great grandchildren called him, was a talented accordion player. He spent many hours whistling and singing in the garden and enjoyed playing golf. Clyde was devoted to his family and was a member of the Joshua Seventh-day Adventist Church. To say that Clyde was patriotic, is an understatement. As the ultimate patriot, he bled red, white and blue. His loving nature will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jolene Crownover; and siblings, Almus, Edward, O.E. and Katherine.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Lois Melton; son and daughter in law, Jimmy and Penny Melton; grandchildren, Taylor Melton, Kyle Parker, and Josh Crownover and his wife, Jenni; great grandchildren, Casta, Natalee, Jolie and Sara; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
