Funeral services for Connie Cardona Mejias, 78, of Cleburne, will be conducted on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home Chapel. Bishop Jay Oakey will preside. Interment will follow in the Rosehill Cemetery, Cleburne. A time of visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home on Friday, April 29, 2022.
Connie Cardona Mejias passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022, in Fort Worth. She was born April 1, 1944, in Refugio, Texas to Manuel and Felipa Hernandez Cardona. Connie married Steve Trevino Mejias on December 8, 1963, in Dewitt County, Texas. She was a member of the Church of the Latter-day Saints. Connie worked as an English teacher for Cleburne ISD and later a bus driver for Joshua ISD. She has been described as a woman who embraced life with a spicy spirit and giving heart, dancing throughout it all. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, spear fishing on the coast or taking motorcycle rides. She was known for her home being open to everyone and quickly made friends into family. She was a talented lady, who could sew anything. Connie was an artist who painted and sketched both. She was an avid reader and that love of books led her to write her own poetry and short stories. Connie was an animal lover, and that love was evident in how she cared for her pets. She taught her children and grandchildren the importance of family. She passed down her love of cooking for others to them as well. Connie will be missed greatly. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Tammy Morris; grandchildren, Cord; and an infant brother, Manuel Cardona.
Survivors include her husband, Steve Mejias, Jr.; children and their spouses, Yvette Bason and husband, Shawn, Jozette George, Dwight Mejias and wife, Shawna, Shawnda Archer Heard and husband, Lonnie, and Andrew Mejias; grandchildren, Justin, Colten, Shayla, Mistell, Shandalynn, Tiffany, Sierra, Stephen, Stephany, Lonnie, Ian and Trinity; 24 great grandchildren and one more on the way; sister, Mary Christopher; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
