Curtis Lee Applegate, age 88, of Blum went to be with the Lord September 26, 2008. Visitation was held September 28 from 6-8 pm, followed by Graveside Services September 29, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Kimbell Cemetery in Kopperl, Texas.
Curtis was born May 11, 1920 in Hill County to Lewis Talmage Applegate and Kate Darr Applegate. During World War II he served in Alaska where he worked on building the Alaskan Pipeline and the Alaskan Highway. He then served in the Phillippines where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart Award. He then married Mary Frances Wilson on February 12, 1946 in Cleburne, Texas.
After the war Pa Paw worked all over Texas as a heavy equipment operator building roads. He then went on to work for Charles Davis and Jim Griffin of Blum as a bulldozer operator building stock tanks and small lakes. Pa Paw loved sharing his love for the outdoors with his grandkids and great grandchildren. He was a caring and loving dad to four daughters and two sons, granddad to thirteen and great granddad to four. Pa Paw was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Kate Darr Applegate, daughter, Carolyn Applegate Hanna and grandson Brian Douglas Applegate, sisters, Ruby Anding, Janie Day, Lorena Callihan and brother, Maner Applegate.
Curtis Lee Applegate is survived by his wife, Mary Frances;, daughters, Paula Meyers and husband Doug Meyers, of Cranfills Gap, Jody Langston and husband, Billy Langston of Blum, Wendy Kimbrell and husband, Daren Kimbrell, of Blum; sons, Weldon Applegate and wife Lawanna, of Blum, Michael Applegate of Whitney and Gena Applegate, of Blum; grandchildren, Rusty Meyers, Jeff Meyers, Jennifer and Marty Penny, Levi and Ashley Langston, Laci and Randy Allen, Annie Rodriguez, Brodie Ray Moore, Hayden Applegate, Megan Applegate, Kason Kimbrell, Maci Applegate, Carolyn Applegate and Katelyn Applegate; great-grandchildren, Alexis Allen, Makenzie Langston, Skylar Allen and Makenna Langston and sisters, Myrtle and Donald Hodges of Covington, Anna Lou Curlee of Cleburne and numerous nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends.
