Service for Daisy Lee Wilkes, 93, of Athens, formerly of Blum, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Pastor Kent Berry will officiate. Burial will follow in Blum Cemetery.
Daisy Lee Wilkes passed away Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016 in Athens. She was born Oct. 14, 1923 in Haskell County, TX to Chester Emmit and Margaret King Crow. She married John Arthur Wilkes, Jr. on Nov. 25, 1940 in Rotan, TX and he preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 2011, after 70 years of marriage.
Mrs. Wilkes was a homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother, great and great–great grandmother; and a dear friend to many. She enjoyed quilting, cooking and taking care of her family. She was a longtime member of the Eastern Star and was the pianist for her church and Eastern Star club. She was a member of Kopperl United Methodist Church and for the last two years attended St. Edwards Catholic Church in Athens.
Survivors include her children, John Arthur Wilkes, III and wife Gina of Sulphur Springs, Jackie Don Wilkes and wife Traci of Athens and Kevin Lee Wilkes and wife Tena of Sulphur Springs; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Dorothy and Sandra Kay; son, George; four sisters; and three brothers.
