Service for David Lee Hamel, 81, of Blum will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 21, 2016 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Mr. Raymond Pruitt will officiate. Burial will be in Kimball Cemetery in Bosque County. Pallbearers will be Chris Booker, Lynn Davis, Brad Booker, Weldon Applegate, Michael Applegate and Joey Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Wilson and Ricky Wilson. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
David Lee Hamel passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 in Blum. He was born January 16, 1935 in Purden to Copey H. and Lillie McGary Hamel. He married Barbara Jean Wilson on August 20, 1962 in Corsicana.
Mr. Hamel worked as a journeyman electrician for an electric company and traveled to Africa and South America building power grid infrastructures. He retired with more than 30 years of service and was of the Church of Christ faith. David also served several terms on the Blum City Council.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Barbara Hamel of Blum; sons, Mark Alan Hamel and Russell Wayne Hamel, all of Blum; three grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Hamel, Russell David Hamel and Katelyn Quinn Hamel, all of Blum; one great grandson, Jude Alan Russell of Blum; sisters, Teresa Berry of Pasadena and Geneva Fade of Corsicana; sister-in-law, Frances Doyle Faughn of Kerens; one brother, Edward Hamel of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Frances Hamel; one brother, Howard Faughn; and two brothers-in-law, Ted Berry and LeRoy Fade.
