Services for Derek Duston Smith, 41, of Burleson, will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2021 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Reverend Larry York will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be Tristin Smith, Chaz Garrett, Haden Smith and Tyson Wattenbarger.
Derek Duston Smith passed away April 29, 2021 in Fort Worth. He was born March 27, 1980 in Cleburne to Laney Dee and Kathy Renee (Johnson) Smith. He married Vesper Dawn (Wattenbarger) Smith on November 12, 2005 in Fort Worth. Derek worked as a production team leader for Gerdau Ameristeel for 15 years. He was a member of Nolan River Road Baptist Church in Cleburne and attended Pathway Church in Burleson. Derek enjoyed fishing and was a kid at heart. He was fun loving and life of the party. Derek was giving and family oriented in all ways. He was known for his “dad” jokes. Derek’s life was centered around his greatest treasures, his wife and boys. He will be greatly missed.
Derek is survived by his wife, Vesper Smith; children, Noah and Aiden Smith; parents, Laney and Kathy Smith; brother, Tristin Smith and Jennifer; grandmother, Virgie Johnson; 12 nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Don Johnson, Y.D. and Marcille Smith.
