Services for D.G. Winter, 84, of Rio Vista will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 9, 2010 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Mr. B.B. Stevens will officiate. Burial will follow in the Grange Hall Cemetery. Pallbearers are Butch Phipps, Kaye Scott, Charles Melton, Kevin Gist, Charles Lockett, James Hackler, Bill Bishop and Sam Bingham. Honorary pallbearers are Dennis Crecelius, Stretch Smith, Joe Sam Hays, Kenneth McAnally and Jason Hackler. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday.
Dana Gene passed to another life at 6:36 A.M. on Monday, September 6, 2010, Labor Day morning at Texas Health Harris Hospital in Cleburne. He was born June 11, 1926 in Rio Vista to Dana Charles and Jessie Cooper Winter. He married Mary Frances Looper on March 4, 19550 in Fort Worth.
Gene was a WWII veteran, serving 2 years, 6 months in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific and his father served in WWI. He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad after 45 years of service. He was also active in raising Simmental cattle for 30 years. He helped raise money to build the Civic Center in Rio Vista. He was a member of the Sheriff's Posse and the Church of Christ in Rio Vista.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Winter of Rio Vista; son, Michael W. Winter of Rio Vista; daughter-in-law, Francis Dalton Winter of Fort Worth; grandsons, Richard G. Winter of Burleson, Christopher A. Winter of Arlington and Dana W. Winter of Livingston; two great grandsons; two great
granddaughters; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, D.C. Winter on May 14, 1965; mother, V.C. Winter on May 7, 1988; brother, P.J. Winter; sister-in-law, J.S. Winter and nephew, P.J. Winter.
