Donald passed away peacefully at home on May 9, 2023. He was born August 26, 1936 in Blum to Albert Clay and Jewel “Babe” Gray Hodges. As a son of a farmer growing up, Donald spent many hours working the fields with his dad.
He met the love of his life Myrtle Applegate in high school, and they married on July 10, 1955. Donald worked as a Plant Manager for Aztec Manufacturing and was a hard-working man. He was always busy. He would work his jobs and come home and help his dad farm until his dad retired. When Donald retired around 2000 and he and Myrtle joined the Iris Society, they created Hodges Iris Gardens with over 2000 named irises. They sold all of their irises in 2007 when their health started declining. He was of the Baptist faith, and a member of Woodrow Baptist Church.
Donald leaves behind a lasting legacy in his children, Deborah Campbell and husband Troy, Ricky Hodges and wife, Kimberly, Laura Hodges and husband, David, Cindy Segars and husband, Joe; sister, Nita McDowell; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Hodges who passed in 2019; parents; siblings, Melton W. Hodges, and Mary L. Hodges McDonough.
The family would like to acknowledge Community Healthcare of Texas. The hospice care he received was amazing. The staff, nurses and aide Rosie were always there for us. Thank you, Kristin, Kari, Vanessa, Toni, Rosie, Renee and Chaplain Don.
