Service for Dorothy Louise Dyer Ledbetter Lane, 71, of Cleburne will be conducted at 10:00 A.M, Thursday, May 25, 2017 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Chaplain Dan Burdan will officiate. Burial will be in Greenacres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Dorothy Louise Dyer Ledbetter Lane was born June 27, 1945 to J.B. and Gertrude May Nickell Dyer in Cleburne. She went to be with her Lord on May 19, 2017. Dorothy was a member of the Church of Christ. Her favorite hobbies were to sew, quilt and embroidery. She enjoyed the outdoors best and most often her pastimes were camping, fishing and gardening.
As a teenager, Dorothy learned the fast-food industry. She worked at the Dairy Mart in Irving and eventually owned and operated her first establishment on Henderson Street in Cleburne. She was married to Jackie Ray Ledbetter and raised two daughters, Tami, and Gayla. Dorothy was a seamstress and a homemaker. After earning her LVN license in nursing, she worked as the primary nurse for Dr. Baldwin-Price, M.D., Dr. Con D. Hamilton, M.D., and Dr. Sylvia Herr, D.O. She served as a hospital nurse for the Hood County Hospital and the Dallas Veteran’s Hospital. In addition to her nursing, she was a full time mother, PTA member in Cleburne ISD, Campfire Girl Camp Nurse, and a ten year volunteer at Irving Elementary School in Cleburne, where she had attended elementary school. She popped popcorn, made snow-cones and decorated homecoming mums for the students; she was known as one of “The Ladies” at Irving Elementary School from 1994 – 2004.
Dorothy researched and recorded the History of Irving Elementary School for its 100 year celebration. Dorothy was known to spend hours researching her family history and historical events in Johnson County. She volunteered at the Salvation Army for five years. Dorothy was a member of the Texas Education Extension Association, (TEEA) with the Achiever’s Club in Stephenville, donating numerous volunteer hours. Dorothy’s mission in life was to serve others. Dorothy often offered her healing hands that others might find comfort in living and dying.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Benjamin Franklin and Izor Frances Lafon Dyer; Robert Edgar and Elmira Moore Graves and Harvey Lewis and Elizabeth A. Lafon Nickell; grandparents, Harvey Lewis Jr. and Gertrude Pearl Nickell and Charlie Franklin and Lillie Mullins Dyer; her parents, J.B, and Gertrude May Nickell Dyer; sister, Sonya May Cole Marr; husband, Jackie Ray Ledbetter and in-laws, Ray and Dora Hudson Ledbetter.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Tami Ledbetter and Gayla Ledbetter Rubel; granddaughter, Krystle Pelham; grandsons, Joel Perkins, Isaac Morales, Jody Mears, Kenny Hayner and wife Kristy Wolf and Raymond McCoy; great granddaughters, Kristen Mears and Katterli Hayner; great grandson, Vincent Hayner; brother, Jim Dyer and wife Judy of Tomball; sisters, Ronda McIlvain and husband Charlie of Kerrville, Lynda Ballard, Ph.D. and husband Barney of Burleson and Dianna Lynn Wadsworth of Hico; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
