Dorothy Springer Mann, 92, of Cleburne, Texas, passed away on January 24, 2022, with her family by her side.
Dorothy was born to the late John Orr and Mae Bell Springer, December 2, 1929, in Terrell, Texas, Kaufman County. Dorothy graduated from Valley View High School in 1946 and started working at the Valley View Bank in Valley View, Texas.
In 1949, Dorothy married the love of her life and groom of 72 years; Sam Mann of rural Cooke County, Texas, near Pilot Point. Dorothy had been introduced to Sam by his father, a frequent customer at Valley View Bank where Dorothy worked as a book keeper and teller. They were married in the Lois Baptist Church and then moved to Lubbock, Terrell, and McKinney before permanently settling in Cleburne where they have lived continuously for 66 years.
In 1965, Sam and Dorothy started Mann Agricultural Service, Inc. Working together, and as a family, they successfully grew and evolved into Mann Farm and Ranch over the next 42 years.
Loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Dorothy treasured her children and embraced every moment with them and their families. She especially loved her role as “Mom” or “Momoos”, as she was known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A farm girl at heart, gardening was also a passion. She enjoyed sharing and teaching her grandchildren and great grandchildren all about gardening and cooking, complete with shelling peas and creating animal pancakes. Dorothy was the quintessential hostess, always welcoming and engaging with a big smile and something to eat and drink always on hand. She had the best smile and she always made people around her feel extra special. Dorothy instilled strong core values of kindness, compassion, honesty, integrity, and respect for others.
Dorothy was an active member of the College Heights Baptist Church for over fifty years. The church was a very special place, near and dear to her heart. We marvel at her fortitude and faith. She truly lived her faith and loved people without judgment and she could always be counted on to help those in need. The Cleburne community benefited from Dorothy being a long-time member of the Lions Club, 4-H leader, supporter and purchaser, charter member of the Chisolm Trail Museum, and Meals on Wheels volunteer.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Sam Mann; her father, John Orr Springer, and mother, Mae Bell Green Springer, and sister Helen Springer. She is survived by her sister, Virginia Faye Miller of Sanger, Texas, brother John David Springer, and sister Lela Mae Amyx.
