Service for Dorothy Nell Watts, 89, of Cleburne will be conducted at 10:30 A.M., Friday, October 30, 2015 in the First Christian Church of Cleburne. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M.-10:30 A.M., Friday, at the church, prior to the service.
Dorothy Nell Watts passed from this earth to her home in heaven on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 in Cleburne. She was born on September 4, 1926 in Ft. Worth, but lived nearly all her life in Cleburne. All of her public schooling was in the Cleburne school system. After graduating from Cleburne High School she attended and graduated from Texas Tech University before being employed as an elementary school teacher in the Cleburne Public School System. She began her teaching career in 1949. During her teaching years she obtained her Masters Degree in education from TCU and continued teaching elementary school in Cleburne for 40 years. Most of her teaching years were at Cooke Elementary. She retired from teaching in 1989. In her final year of teaching she was selected teacher of the year in the Cleburne School System.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Cleburne, where she was an Elder and Sunday school teacher. Her family has been members of that Church for more than 110 years. First Christian Church has always been a special place for Dorothy and her family. She was also a member of many professional organizations including, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Texas State Teachers Association, Texas Historical Association, and Daughters of the American Revolution. After her retirement she enjoyed activities at Santa Fe Trails, where she loved playing card games with other retired teachers and friends. All of Dorothy’s family and friends will miss her loving smile and pleasant conversation.
Survivors include her sister, Sarah Wall of Fairfax, VA; brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Lynda Watts of Kingwood; and six nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Sam Wright; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Susan Watts; and brother-in-law, Robert Wall.
