Services for Doyle Elvin (D.E.) Conway 89 Years, 10 months and 19 days of Cleburne, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 in the Crosier Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Mr. B.B. Stevens will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cleburne Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Mr. Conway passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012 after a brief illness. Mr. Conway was born to Lonnie Elvis and Eva Ethyl Conway on August 12, 1922 in Joshua, Texas.
Mr. Conway was raised in Joshua until graduation where he joined the military serving with Battery B. After leaving the military Mr. Conway went to work for Conviar during WWII, Central Texas Furniture Manufacturing, Central Texas Bus Lines and Central Texas Freight.
He was manager for the Cleburne Firestone Store until he retired.
He went on to work and retired from National Life Insurance Co. and the U.S. Postal Service. Later years he worked for Sowell Oil company with his dear friends George and Albert Sowell.
Mr. Conway was instrumental in the building of the Granbury Street Church of Christ where he was a founding member. He served as deacon for many years then served as the church historian. Mr. Conway continued monitoring bible correspondence courses, "Truth to the World", teaching Gods word throughout the world until his death.
His wife of 71 years, Doris Conway and a daughter Carolyn Lemmons of Waco, Texas survives Mr. Conway. He is also survived by two grandchildren Don Lemmons and wife Kathy of Leander, Texas, Gena Hunn and husband Ron of Weatherford Texas. Four great grandchildren are Steven and Matthew Lemmons of Leander, Texas, and Justin and Paige Hunn of Weatherford, Texas. One great-great grandson, Jacob Lemmons of Leander, Texas. Along with a sister, Margaret Brewster of Azle, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents, two brothers Melvin and Benton Conway, and one sister, Iva Ellen Pack.
