Services for Edna Earle Boyd, 88, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. The Rev. Robert Herzig will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m.
Edna Boyd passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2009 in Ft. Worth. She was born September 19, 1920 in Cleburne to John Benjamin "J.B." and Della Mary Leath Bright. She attended Cleburne schools, graduating in 1938. She graduated from Texas Christian University in 1941. She taught school in Hamilton for one year. Edna married M.H. Boyd on May 20, 1942 in Stephenville. Mrs. Boyd worked as a clerk/typist at various Air Force bases while her husband was in the service. In 1949, the family moved back to Cleburne and she resided here until her death. In September 1959 she went to work as Assistant Johnson County School Superintendent and held this job for 12 years, at which time she was appointed Johnson County School Superintendent,serving in this capacity for seven years.
In January 1979, she went to work as secretary at the First United Methodist Church and remained there until she retired in 1991. She did volunteer work there as the membership secretary until 2001. Mrs. Boyd has been a volunteer at Walls Regional Hospital since June 1985, where she was named Volunteer of the Year in 2004.
Survivors include one son, Larry Boyd and wife, Linda of Joshua; one daughter, Barbara Benavidez of Crowley; three grandchildren, Tracy Crysup and husband, John of Burleson; Derrick Boyd and wife, Lisa of Tyler and Michael Boyd of Joshua; two step-grandchildren, Misty Johnson and husband, Shawn of Saginaw and Chad Johnson and wife, Nicole of Joshua; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Langley of Lawrence, KS and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years; a son, John in 2005 and her parents.
