Edwin R. "Ed" Wilson passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 in Cleburne. He was born July 12, 1943 in Cleburne to Bennett Ross and Martha Lou Benton Wilson.
Edwin lived his life for Christ, which was shown through his love for Christ, his church, and for anyone he came across. Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, and uncle. Ed grew up in Cleburne, where he made life-long friends that he has stayed in touch with through the years. Ed was a very active church member, serving as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, Deacon, and Chairman of the Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Godley. He served in the Texas National Guard, further showing his servants heart. He was a dedicated businessman for many years until he retired in 2009.
He began dating his soon-to-be wife of 51 years in 1963. On June 4, 1965, he married Charlotte Ann Gilliam. Charlotte was the love of his life. He served his wife with an extraordinary love that will last an eternity. They settled down in Godley, where they raised five sons; Scott Edwin, Jeffery Lane, Randall Todd, Carey Mark, and Bennett Lee.
Edwin was a Godly man whom loved the Lord with all his might and it was very evident in the way he lived his life. Everyone that knew him respected him and loved him. He was a very loving and caring man that never met a stranger. He loved watching his sons play the sport he was passionate about, which was football. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his son, Lane coach football and excel at it. Going to TCU games with his family brought such joy to him sharing his love for TCU. Ed loved watching his grandchildren play in their various sporting activities. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren lit up his world. He was the ultimate “PaPa”. He enjoyed his retirement with his bride to the fullest. Anyone who came across Edwin Wilson had their life made brighter, just by the encounter.
His loving survivors include his loving wife, Charlotte Wilson of Godley; sons, Scott Wilson and wife Toi, Lane Wilson and wife Jana, Todd Wilson and wife Stephanie, Mark Wilson and wife Leslie, and Ben Wilson and wife Marcie; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Llanea McMinn and husband David and Ginger Underwood and husband Bill; brother, Claude Wilson; and several nieces and nephews, extended family and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross Wilson and Martha Lou Benton Wilson Bankston.
