Edwin Runner

Service for CPO Edwin G. Runner, U.S.N. Ret., 72, of Cleburne will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, September 22, 2011 in the Calvary Baptist Church. The Reverend Charles E. Payne and Brother Eddy Carrell will officiate. Burial will be at 2:15 P.M., Thursday, in the DFW National Cemetery in Grand Prairie. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M., Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Mr. Runner passed away Monday, September 19, 2011 in Fort Worth. He was born September 23, 1938 in Billings, Montana to Edward G. and Florence Birman Runner. He married Ruth Marie Daniels on April 21, 1964 in Rockport, Texas.

Chief Petty Officer Runner was retired from the U.S. Navy with 20 years service and was also a retired millwright. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion Post No. 51, FRA, member of the CPO Association and the Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Ruth Runner of Cleburne; three sons, Vernon Runner and wife Joy of Reedsport, Oregon, John R. Byrd and wife Gail of Eufaula, Alabama and Edwin G. Runner, Jr. and wife Annie of Oak Harbor, Washington; four daughters, Donna Kehl of California, Nellie C. Mauldin of Cleburne, Shirley J. Pyle of Cleburne and Dawn M. Carey and husband Sean of Austin; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; cousin, Linda Pruitt and husband Clint of Blum; brother-in-law, Norman L. Daniels and wife Melinda of Corpus Christi; two sisters-in-law, Deenie Daniels of Rusk and Joyce Daniels of Alice. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and one sister.
