Service for Effie Abernathy, 97, of Rio Vista will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Pastor Randy Burch will officiate. Burial will be in Rio Vista Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard Moore, Greg Moore, Chris Moore, Jason Moore, Nick Moore and Kyle Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be Lowell Smith, Jr., Todd Colbert, Landon Nease, Luke Nease, Eric Nease, and Kai Moore. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Friday, at the funeral home.
Effie Abernathy passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018 in Ft. Worth. She was born June 23, 1920 in Hill County to Riley and Emma Holder McNatt. She married Stanley Abernathy on May 20, 1941 in Ft. Worth and he preceded her in death in Nov. of 1996.
Mrs. Abernathy was an assembly line worker for Rangaire for 22 years and a special education assistant with the Rio Vista ISD for 20 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rio Vista.
Survivors include her son, Gayland Abernathy of Rio Vista; daughter, Rhonda Long and companion, Dan Schnick of Joshua; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; four brothers; grandson-in-law, Stephen Gehres in 2016 and son-in-law, Ralph Long in 2011.
