Service for Elaine Ewing, 96, of Rio Vista will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, September 3, 2015 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Mr. Kaye Scott will officiate. Burial will be in Cleburne Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the Reverend David Baldwin, Johnny Skiles, Wade Bingham, Curtis W. Skiles, Charles Henderson and Charles Richardson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis F. Massey, James Hackler, Jack Langford, Butch Phipps, Loyal Tutle, Charles Skiles and John Jones. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Wednesday, at the funeral home and it was her hope that all her truck driver friends and their families would have a reunion there.
Elaine Ewing passed away Monday, August 31, 2015 in Cleburne. She was born March 13, 1919 in Rio Vista on a farm where she lived most of her life to Eldon Dekalb and Vessie Love Shamburger Ewing. She graduated Rio Vista High School and attended Hill Jr. College.
Miss Ewing was a retired secretary, having worked in Ft. Worth for 20 years (during WWII at the district Office of Price Administration) and 23 years at Cletex Trucking in Cleburne. She was a member of Rio Vista Church of Christ since 1932, when she was baptized in Mustang Creek south of Rio Vista.
Survivors include her beloved niece, Nell Edge Teague and husband Steve of Little Rock, AR; her equally beloved nephew, Steven Edge and his wife Kathy of Brookhaven, MS; her great niece, Rachel Teague Hill; her great nephews, Kenneth and Andrew Edge; her old friend of over 80 years, Marie Gibson; and greatly beloved friends, Billie Ann and John Jones, Nina Chapman, and Jimmy and Carol Wray; and many dear cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents in 1959 and 1960; and two sisters, Martelia O’Gwin in 1968 and Nell Edge in 2001.
