Service for Elgie M. Wood, 94, of Arlington, will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Monday, April 11, 2022, in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Mr. Steve Maxwell will officiate. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery at 2:30 P.M., Monday, April 11, 2022. Visitation will be 3:00-5:00 P.M., Sunday, April 10, 2022, at the funeral home.
Elgie passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022, in Arlington. She was born October 10, 1927, in Cumby, Texas to John and Lula Mae Sargent Smith. Elgie married C.B. “Jack” Wood on February 16, 1946, in Paris, Texas. She was of the Baptist faith and worked as a Beautician for over 50 years. Elgie was a member of the Eastern Star and served twice as Worthy Matron. She was the oldest past President of the Social Order of the Beauceant. Mr. and Mrs. Wood sang country and gospel music together for several decades.
Elgie is survived by her husband of 76 years, Jack Wood of Arlington, Texas; children, Jackie Powell and spouse, Larry of Rendon, Mike Wood and spouse, Nelda of Waldron, Arkansas, Val Wood and spouse, Lisa of Morgan, Texas; siblings, Homer Smith and spouse, Betty of Paris, Texas, Grady Smith of Van, Texas, Shirley Smith of Hugo, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Sean, Angie, Jamie, Rachel, Rebecca, Sara, Heather, Hayley, Elizabeth, Jordan, Mikayla, and Jack; along with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by siblings, J.L. Smith, Luther Smith, Patsy Penton, and John Smith, Jr.
