Elma Klennert

Elma Jewel Slocum Klennert was born in Childress, Texas, on Jan. 16, 1923, to Curtis and Perla Slocum and departed life in Cleburne on March 21, 2011. Jewel retired from Cal State Fullerton in Fullerton, Calif., and returned to her home in Texas in 1998. Jewel was an accomplished singer, and other than her son, music was the true love of her life. Her love of the Lord and his music gave Jewel the strength to battle crippling arthritis for most of her adult life.
Jewel is survived by her son, Richard Eason and his wife, Carole, of Rio Vista; and grandchildren Veronica Eason, Lisa Akin, Shari Riggins and Coby Eason. Jewel is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two nephews; and one niece. Jewel also leaves behind many beloved friends who were family to her.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, 201 Old Cleburne Whitney, Rio Vista, Texas, on Monday, March 28, 2011, at 10:30 a.m.
