Ernest was born to Ernest Virgil and Beatrice Matthews Basham on October 4, 1939 in Cleburne. He married Mary Helen Todd on February 9, 1962 in Fort Worth. He was a devoted member of the Grace Baptist Church, Grandview. Ernest was a rancher, who took great pride in and loved tending to his acreage and livestock. He spent countless hours on his tractor or at the sale barn in search of cattle. He was a family man in every sense of the phrase. His world centered around his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ernest was a quiet man of few words, however when he did speak – you took notice and listened. His many life lessons in ranching, family and his faith will live on through his family for generations to follow. He will be missed greatly. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Helen Basham; sons, Michael Bret Basham and Mitchell Bart Basham and his wife, Gina; grandchildren, Eli Basham, Evan Basham, Kalani Basham Thornton and husband, Cole, and Hannah Massey and husband, Dakota; great grandchildren, Brecken Massey and Bentleigh Massey; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
