We celebrate the life of Ernesto Ortiz Almeyda who fell asleep in his Father's arms on June 9, 2005. Born in Malaga, Colombia 68 years ago Ernesto grew up in the Christian home of Ernesto Ortiz, Sr. and Angela Almeyda de Ortiz, pioneers and leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Santander Colombia. He was brother and playmate to Elizabeth Ortiz, Eduardo Ortiz, Hernando Ortiz, Sara Ortiz de Fals-Borda, David Ortiz and Martha Ortiz.
Ernesto "Tico" brought happiness to his family from his first years to the end of his life. With his mischievous smile and generous heart, he taught those around him to look adversity in the face, without tremor or complaint. Ernesto knew no boundaries.
Ernesto was husband and companion for 35 years to Martha Cardoza de Ortiz and father, friend and confidante to Carlos Ernesto, Juan Pablo and Martha Juliana Ortiz and to his daughter-in-law Rachel Schaefer de Ortiz. He loved them with his whole being.
Tico was also counselor, friend and joke interpreter to his large family and innumerable friends. Ernesto will be dearly missed and remembered through the many lives he originated and touched.
