Services for Genevieve Koonce, 83, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel, Pleasanton, Texas. Mr. Ray Bean will officiate services. There will be a private burial in Pleasanton City Cemetery.
Mrs. Koonce passed away in Cleburne on Saturday, January 1, 2011. She was born August 18, 1927 in Pleasanton to Vernon and Johnnie Dossey Vickers. Genevieve married Phil Barrett Koonce on July 28, 1946 in Pleasanton. She was a longtime member of Pleasanton Church of Christ and most recently with Alvarado Church of Christ. She retired after teaching junior high history with Palestine and Pleasanton school systems. Genevieve was a music lover, especially of singing and playing the piano. She was a fan of sports, specifically the Texas Rangers and Aggies. Genevieve was a history buff, with Texas history being her favorite. Her love for family and life will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her mother, Johnnie Dossey Roberts and father, Vernon Vickers.
Survivors include her husband, Phil Barrett Koonce; daughter, Jonni Dunn and her husband, Riley; son, Jim Koonce; grandchildren and their spouses, Jon and Audra Koonce, Brian Koonce, Fletcher and A'me Dunn, and Cassel and Chuck Talley; great grandchildren, Josh, Will and James Koonce, Georgia and Mitchell Talley, and Elliot and Travis Dunn; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
